Finds in the Backyard
A detectorist uses the Minelab VANQUISH 340 to uncover intriguing artefacts in their backyard, revealing hidden pieces of history close to home.
Exploring History with My Vanquish 340
After doing some research, I bought my first metal detector about two years ago — a Vanquish 340 — as a way to explore the hobby and as something fun to do with my nephew.
My folks built their home about 40 years ago on property that used to be farmland on the outskirts of a small town that was founded in the early 1800s.
Just by exploring the property, I’ve been able to make some interesting finds, including:
- An old wagon hitch
- Several horseshoes
Some of my favorite finds I’ve saved in a shadowbox. They include:
- An old General Motors key
- A shotgun shell
- An old brass button
- My favorite: A decorative brass spoon
